article:

Simply stated, the Greek word glyco refers to “sweet.” Hence, a glyconutrient is a biochemical that contains a sugar molecule. The prefix “glyco” can be placed in front of a fat, protein or any molecule and suggests that a sugar is attached. Glycobiology is the study of the sugar portion of these proteins and fats.
Glycoprotein = Sugar attached to a protein.
Glycolipid = Sugar attached to a fat.
Glycoform = Any sugar form.
Glyconutrients are not vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, herbs, enzymes or homeopathic drugs. They are carbohydrates. Just as there are essential proteins called amino acids and essential fats called fatty acids, glyconutrients are the newly discovered class of necessary carbohydrate nutrients.
The efficacy of glyconutrients has been established by the world’s leading scientists and researchers as the key to proper cellular communication and proper cell function. Many medical professionals and research scientists believe this medical breakthrough in glycoscience will lead to glyconutrients becoming a household word within the next three years and believe Glyconutrients will soon become mandatory for overall health. With the speculation of becoming a “staple nutritional supplement” for all 6 billion people on Earth, even business analysts believe Glyconutrients will become a household staple.
Scientists are networking over the emergence of this new technology called “glycobiology”- the discovery of cellular communication! Books and articles are being published on this life-enhancing technology everyday! It is exciting to see how nutritional supplementation of glyconutrients can play a role major in supporting our bodies.
M.D. News, ~ June 2002. M.D. News, a national publication with regionalized editions in 40 major medical markets in the U.S. This 3-page article covers the science of sugars and reviews specific topics such as successes with fibromyalgia, toxic shock and diabetes.
Featured is Michelle, who in 1998 was a typical 10- year-old child with Down syndrome, attention deficit, always sick and hospitalized many times due to severe asthma attacks. Her life consisted of the nebulizer, antibiotics and steroids. That daily medical regime is no longer a part of her life since her parents, Barbara and Jacques, began giving her glyconutrient products. “Michelle now has the quality of life every parent wants for his or her child,” says Barbara. “We know she’ll get sick from time to time, but it won’t be life threatening. Michelle has always been a beautiful child, but we and others have noticed that the facial features associated with Down syndrome have become less pronounced, a side benefit we didn’t expect.” (excerpt from Las Vegas Magazine, July/August 2001.)
There are stories like this one pouring in day after day about glyconutrients. Go and learn all you can about this exciting discovery for health and nutrition.

If you suspect that you have a dental abscess see your New York dentist in a New York minute. This severe infection is nothing to mess around with. Under the right collection of the wrong circumstances a dental abscess can even lead to death. In that scenario the infection spreads to the throat and can cause swelling bad enough for suffocation to occur.

Two types of infection are of concern to dentists. One is periapical abscess, the most frequently occurring kind. This one begins in the dental pulp. An abscess that starts in bones or other tissues that surround teeth is called periodontal abscess. Fluid typically collects in this soft gum tissue making the area extremely painful.

Most of these dental abscesses are caused when the formation of a cavity is not interrupted and continues to sink ever deeper into the tooth structures. Finally, the pulp tissue inside the root is involved and becomes infected. This pulp tissue dies and worsens the infection.

Other possible causes of dental abscesses are cracks in teeth or even periodontal disease. Regardless of the causes the extent of the dental abscess has the possibility of becoming very widespread. Bone and soft tissue can become involved. A condition known as septicemia or blood infection may result from a dental abscess that spreads to the contiguous blood vessels.

Septicemia as well as Ludwig’s Angina which can result in an airway constriction may result, albeit infrequently, from dental abscesses. Both of these are very serious outcomes and require emergency medical care.

Two traditional treatments exist for dental abscesses before more serious problems result. The first is extraction of the tooth. The second is a root canal which is the combination of a pulp removal (pulpectomy) followed by root filling. This filling material is not of the amalgam type used in surface teeth cavities. Rather a plastic called isoprene is melted and pored into the treated root. The whole process requires at least two office visits with a specialist called an endodontist. The second appointment usually is needed to place a cap on the treated tooth.

All-in-all any treatment for abscess is unpleasant at best. Pain relievers and antibiotics may help some before treatment but the extraction or root canal must still be scheduled. Only a very foolish person would neglect this needed treatment. Time will not heal this wound. The exact opposite is likely! The abscess can spread and cause other more serious problems.

Cost is a considerable issue in regards to treating a dental abscess with a root canal. This procedure can cost as much as $1500 in the USA. Many American dental insurers will only pay up to 50% of this cost. The remainder is a serious drain on most budgets. If more than one tooth is abscessed the cost of treatment becomes very high, as does the level of physical pain.

By contrast most dentists can treat dental abscesses with extraction for relatively low cost. There are many other considerations that must be taken into account before electing between these two treatments. One is that a root canal may not solve the problem for very long. The tooth can still decay further and may eventually still need to be extracted.

Either way this or other issues may be discussed in an office appointment with a New York dentist.

Cholesterol is produced by the liver and is a fat-like waxy substance. Although cholesterol is usually thought of as a “bad thing”, the truth is that cholesterol is important to your overall health and helps body function. Every one of your cells within your body is supported by good cholesterol. When cholesterol gets old or if it goes bad then level becomes elevated, it can be dangerous. The “good” cholesterol helps to get the bad cholesterol back down to safe levels. Whenever the bad (LDL & VLDL) cholesterol level climbs higher it becomes a serious situation. Untreated it can contribute to severe health problems including stroke, kidney damage, diabetes mellitus, and heart disease. People with uncontrolled “bad” cholesterol are three times more likely to have a heart attack, they are six times more susceptible to develop congestive hear failure, people with high cholesterol will be seven times more likely to have an ischemic stroke. People with high cholesterol may need to take cholesterol blockers to lower their cholesterol.

If you are into natural herbs and remedies, you can go to your favorite health food store and buy natural cholesterol blockers. Of course Green Tea* is a very good cholesterol blocker too? Green tea is rich in a class of polyphenols (polyphenols give the plant its color) known as catechins (pronounced kat-a-kins). The strongest catechin in green tea is known as epigallocatechin gallate. We’ll call it EGCG to make life easier. When your body wants to burn fat, it releases a substance known as norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is one of the sparks that lights the fat burning fire. However, norepinephrine has a limited lifespan in your body. That’s where EGCG helps. By keeping norepinephrine alive for longer, EGCG can help your body burn more fat, making it an excellent cholesterol blockers.

Lead researchers believe that caffeine and EGCG (both found in green tea) work together to prolong the life of norepinephrine. These researchers also believe that green tea extract, “has the ability to influence body weight and body composition via changes in both energy expenditure and substrate utilization.” This is why green tea makes good cholesterol blockers. The green tea in this study provided 50mg of caffeine and 90mg of EGCG per serving. Subjects took three servings daily. Green Tea is also a superior antioxidant, antiviral and ulcer protective. Increases mental awareness, fights fatigue, helps diminish appetite and regulates blood sugar.

*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Restricted caloric intake and a good exercise program is required to lose weight.

As with any type of health issue, make sure you speak with your doctor about taking any kind of medicine, even herbal cholesterol blockers. Certain vitamins and prescription drugs do not do well together and may cause serious damage to your system. You want to get better, not make things worse. Take care of your health and live happy.

Originally, Cheque Drops were used in vet medicine to normalize the heat cycles of female dogs for breeding purposes, but cheque drops developed into short-range steroids.

Cheque Drops are composed of the steroid Mibolerone. Cheque Drops are quite strong and have to be used with proper care to get the most benefits with least side effects. Dan Duchaine allegedly revealed the uses and benefits of Cheque Drops for musclebuilding. Cheque drops attained too much popularity due to definitive fighting circles additionally. The reason behind their popularity in such cases is due to the increase of aggressiveness they can present jocks before events.

Cheque Drops have been popular with jocks who take part in physical, full-contact sports including football, boxing and martial arts. Cheque Drops’ aptitude to raise hostility has been victorious for such sports. Cheque Drops were delivered in mcg quantities in liquid droppers.

Cheque Drops are several times solider than testosterone. The main intention behind adding up a few drops of Cheque Drops to the food of female dogs in heat to keep them controlled. Human jocks used a few drops of Cheque Drops under the tongue before a sporting event or training to increase their belligerency. But, often because of low doses, the athletes making use of Cheque Drops experience small, or no anabolic outcomes.

If Cheque Drops are used in high quantities or for over two weeks, they can gravely have an effect on natural testosterone production in the body. In addition, it can also cause liver damage. If not used properly, it can also cause gynocomastia. Other fallouts include insomnia and hypertension. Cheque Drops should not be used by women due to its unique use in determining the ovulation cycle in female dogs. Women would probably experience severe acne, deepening voice, lessoned or ceased menstruation and clitoral enlargement. It is banished because of its affect on the body and adrenaline.

As the population ages, cataracts are becoming a growing health concern.

A cataract is a clouding of the eye lens to such an extent that it affects vision. The majority of cataracts develop due to the aging process, and by age 80, more than half of all Americans have them. However, there are also other type of cataracts: secondary cataracts, which form after surgery for other ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma; traumatic cataracts, which can develop after an eye injury; congenital cataracts; and radiation-inducted cataracts. Cataracts can occur in just one eye, or bilaterally.

Age-related cataracts can develop in two ways. Protein clumping in the capsule of lens causes poor transmission of light, leading to blurred and cloudy vision. Also, the normally clear lens can develop a yellow or brown tint, making it difficult to differentiate between dark colors such as dark blue and black .

Risk factors for the development of cataracts include aging, certain diseases such as diabetes (which also causes diabetic retinopathy), personal behavior such as smoking and alcohol abuse, and environmental/professional factors such as exposure to radiation or sunlight.

For instance, a study at the University of Iceland discovered that commercial airline pilots have a 3-fold increase in cataracts compared to non-pilots due to ionizing cosmic radiation at high altitudes. This radiation is normally filtered out by the atmosphere before reaching the earth. The pilots developed nuclear cataracts, which occur in the gelatinous interior of the lens, as opposed to cortical cataracts, which occur in the front capsule of the lens and are associated with UV light. The study recommended sunglasses to filter sunlight in the cockpit as a precautionary measure to prevent any synergistic effects of UV light, but offered no solution to the basic problem of radiation exposure during high-altitude flights.

Cataracts can be discovered in a routine eye exam, or after the patient complains of symptoms such as cloudy or blurred vision, poor color perception, glare and haloes around lights, poor night vision, double vision, or frequent eyewear prescription changes. Some of these symptoms can also be caused by diseases other than cataracts.

In the early stages, the symptoms of cataracts may be relieved by stronger eyeglasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses and magnifying lenses. However, if the cataract formation progresses, it may interfer intolerably with activities of everyday living. At this stage, surgery to remove the clouded natural lens and replace it with a synthetic one is the only effective treatment. Surgery relieves vision problems in 90% of cataract patients; however, many elderly cataract patients have other ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma or age-related macular degeneration which also affect vision.

There are two different surgical procedures to remove cataracts. In phacoemulsification, also called “small incision cataract surgery”, a small incision is made in the cornea, and an ultrasonic probe is used to break up the diseased lens so it can be removed by suction. Extracapsular surgery is more rarely done, and in this case the surgeon makes a longer incision on the side of the cornea and removes the core of the lens in one piece before suctioning out the remaining pieces. Following removal of the natural lens, an artificial lens, called an intraocular lens (IOL), is inserted. The surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic and sedation.

Cataract surgery is usually safe, but complications such as infection, bleeding and retinal detachement occur in a few patients. Other co-existing eye disorders such as severe myopia increase this risk. Retinal detachment is a medical emergency, and can be ignored by the patient because it causes no pain. A post-operative patient who has symptoms of “floaters” or light flashes must be evaluated immediately for retinal detachment, since early treatment can prevent loss of vision.

There are protective nutritional measures against cataracts available to everyone. In a study on nutrition and disease performed by the Harvard School of Public Health on 50,828 nurses, it was found that women taking vitamin C supplements of 250 to 500 mg daily for a decade or more decreased their odds of developing cataracts requiring surgery by 45%. Vitamin A also plays a role; the same study found that women with the highest beta-carotene and vitamin A intakes lowered their risk by 39%. In another study, taking 400 mg of vitamin E daily reduced cataract formation by 50%, and in a related study, it was found that people with the highest blood levels of vitamin E had half the risk of developing cataracts as those with the lowest blood levels. Lutein and zeaxanthin, found in vegetable such as spinach and kale, are also said to be protective. Trace minerals such as zinc and selenium are essential for the function of anti-oxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase, and doctors often add these minerals to eye-protective vitamin formulas.

Antioxidants are natural chemicals found in the body. Free radicals are the results of processes in cells that can damage cell walls, structure and genetic material. Antioxidants help prevent this from occurring. They occur naturally in the body and can also be added with diet and supplements.

Supplements such as vitamins A, C and E and selenium all contain antioxidants. Supplements are widely available at health food stores, grocery stores and pharmacies. They come in forms such as tablets, capsules and soft gels and are taken orally. It is recommended to seek out a multi antioxidant pack as opposed to a single one. It is also recommended that supplements be taken to enhance the natural diet, not replace it. Patients suffering from illness and under treatment of prescribed medication should consult a physician before adding antioxidant supplements to their diet. A physician will be able to help recommend required doses for supplements and suggest dietary changes that will best compliment treatments already in progress. Antioxidant supplements for otherwise healthy individuals are generally free from side effects and safe to use.

Although supplements can be beneficial, studies indicate that they are not as effective as eating fruits and vegetables where antioxidants are naturally present. Foods such as onions, tomatoes, grapes, green tea and pomegranates all contain antioxidants. Also, herbs such as garlic and rosemary have it. Because fruits and vegetables contain other beneficial elements, eating them as opposed to a single supplement is much better.

It is reported that antioxidants can help prevent a number of illnesses. Heart disease is reported to be preventable by using vitamin E. Vitamin C can help control blood pressure. Antioxidants are also shown to help prevent diseases such as diabetes and certain cancers. In addition to preventing diseases, it is believed antioxidants can help slow the effects of aging like wrinkled skin and loss of muscle.

Antioxidants are proven to be beneficial to the body to help ward off disease and illness. Serious diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes may be prevented with proper antioxidant levels. These occur naturally in the body and are present in many foods and herbs, especially fruits and vegetables. A well balanced diet filled with foods containing antioxidants is recommended and is the best way to enhance dietary requirements. However, if your diet does not contain enough of these foods, a supplement can be used. These should be taken with meals twice per day and it is recommended to use multi-packs as opposed to single doses.

When we get home after a long day at work, the only thing we wish for is a nice relaxing massage. But there is hardly any time to go to a spa, nor do we have any energy left for the task. The other option left is to go and buy massage chair. These are recliners that come with various features helping us relax. The massage chairs come with a built in massager that can be activated with a press of a button. There are wide range of chairs available, it could be a massage recliner or massage lounger. But based on what you need it for, you must pick out the one that suits your needs and fits your budget.

Massage is a form of relaxing our body, and working the stress out of our system. A neck massage will be ideal for those with pain around the neck or shoulders. Back massage is done for those suffering from back aches, or spine injuries. It helps relieve tension in our body, thereby helping us rejuvenate and rest. After a good massage, all we want to do is laze about and rest, because it leaves us feeling refreshed.

Some of the best massage chairs are made by Sanyo, Omega or Panasonic. Their massage chairs are not only comfortable, but also high tech. Most of the massage chairs we see in stores come with a remote, which is used to operate the hidden massaging tools which run on a motor. The massage chair can be used at any point of time, and usually up to 30 minutes per day. For people whose work requires them to stand on their feet for long hours, they can get back home, take a nice hot shower and rest in the massage chair and have a foot reflexology massage.

The massage recliner comes with attractive side tables, maybe a magazine rack and even a leg rest which will come up with the press of a button. Depending on how high you can go, the models available will overwhelm you. The kind of technology used and the variety of massages you can do with the massage lounger will have you all excited about it. You will be a like a child with a new toy, experimenting and enjoying the massage chair.

When you do decide to buy massage chair, keep in mind the location, and space available in the room you are going to place it in. These chairs are usually big in size and quite bulky. There is need for adequate space not just to put the massage recliner, but around the massage lounger as well. Also check with the dealer on details regarding the warranty, life of the motor and if the manufacturer offers in home warranty service. Because we invest quite a bit, the quality of the massage chair needs to be good and worth the investment. At the end of the day let yourself go with the massage recliner.

What A 6-Month Old Can Teach Us About Our Eating Habits

This article was originally written by Melanie R. Jordan

date_saved:2007-07-25 12:30:10

article:

Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing my 6-month old niece Rianna in Las Vegas. She has just started eating “real” baby food beyond the formula in her bottle, and I got a kick out of feeding her one of her meals of squash. Okay, so not all of it got in her mouth, but she was pretty cooperative overall.
I was curious as to what else she was eating, and my sister-in-law showed me an assortment of baby food jars containing green beans, carrots, bananas and a variety of other fruits and vegetables.
It was at this moment the following thought hit me. When we come into this world we are “NMP” (a healthy eating style) and then some! We don’t start off eating meat, poultry and the various other junk food we become accustomed to later on. The craving for these items is something we learn. And if we can learn it, we can also “unlearn” it. That’s what I did when I used my unique Fallback Methods to make the easy, gradual transition to my healthy “NMP” eating style. By the way, I coined the acronym “NMP” for my book “Have Your Cheeseburger And Keep Your Health Too!” to describe my healthy eating style. It stands for “no meat or poultry”, but unlike vegetarian diets, includes fish, and its emphasis on converting favorite comfort foods we all grew up on and like to eat out, into more healthful meatless forms.
You can do your children a huge favor by bringing them up “NMP”, or at least as “NMP” as possible, and letting them continue with the non-meat/poultry diet they naturally started when they first were introduced to solid food. You can also help the other children in your life–grandchildren and nieces and nephews by teaching them when you have time with them that good food choices are their friends.
There is an epidemic of overweight and obese kids in the United States due to poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle (too much television, video games and computer time). So diseases like Type II diabetes which are supposed to be “adult onset” are starting to show up even in teenagers. Researchers have shown that arteries can begin being clogged by poor diet from the early years of childhood on. It’s never too soon to adopt healthy eating habits that can put a child in the best possible position to have a very long and healthy life.
So does this mean that as your kids grow they cannot have all the “traditional” kid fare that all of us love like hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken nuggets? Not at all! There are healthy and delicious non-meat/poultry versions of all of these foods that you can use, and feel good about giving your child. So your kids can definitely “have their cheeseburger and keep their health too!” There’s even one company, Yves, that has introduced a line of “lunchable”-type meals that mimic those incredibly unhealthy, heavily-advertised meals that kids are often sent off to school with.
And, just because you’re not a kid (at least in numeric age) anymore yourself, it doesn’t mean that you can’t asily “unlearn” and improve upon your current eating habits. “NMP” eating is designed to allow you to eat healthfully, yet still have all your favorite comfort foods. “NMP” also teaches you to avoid hidden food dangers. It’s the unique combination of the two that gives you the best of all possible worlds when it comes to diet and your health. So why not make “NMP” the healthy eating style of choice in your household? It’s never too early and it’s never too late!
Note: Please check with your pediatrician or other healthcare professionals to determine the best way to incorporate healthy “NMP” eating in your child’s diet and it’s applicability to his or her particular needs.

What You Need to Know About Pet Health Care Insurance

Before you purchase a pet health care insurance plan for your pet, check the list of the companies approved veterinarians to see if your veterinarian will accept the companies check.
Ask your local veterinarian what type of pet health care insurance plan would best suit your family pet. Ask your local veterinarian to read over the plan and listen to their advice. Talking to your local veterinarian will also help you establish if the insurance company you are considering purchasing your pet health care insurance plan from is reputable.

If you have purchased a pet that is as of yet unaltered you’ll want to look for a pet health care plan that includes neutering and spaying.

Before you pay for a pet health care insurance plan you need to carefully read how the policy handles prescription coverage. Most companies that sell pet health care insurance do not include prescription coverage in their basic medical health care insurance plan. If you are concerned about the cost of any prescription your pet might need during the course of its life you should probably consider buying a prescription coverage rider to complement your pet health care insurance. Although this rider may appear expensive and unnecessary you’ll probably wish you had purchased it if your pet is ever given a prescription for anything. Just like the human counterparts prescriptions are very expensive.

One of things you need to take into consideration when purchasing a pet health care insurance plan is the deductible. The deductible is the amount of money you pay out-of-pocket for veterinarian services rendered that your pet health care insurance plan does not cover. Different pet health care plans require different deductibles. The higher a the deductible you choose the lower your monthly payments to the insurance company but the higher deductible the more out-of-pocket extension had each time you visit the veterinarian’s office/clinic.

Most pet insurance companies have “cap” or limit placed on each pet health care insurance plan. This cap varies from one procedure to the next a broken leg will probably have a different cap then cancer treatments will for your pet. Before you purchase your pet health care insurance plan talk to the company representative about waiting periods. Find out exactly how long it’ll take over the policy to be effective and how long the general wait for claims to be reimbursed is. Most companies have a ten day period between the time they receive the vet bill and when the check gets placed in the mail. Also find out how the refund is processed. Does the pet health care insurance company pay the veterinarian directly or do you have to pay the vet and the company mails the check to you when they receive the bill.

Why you have the company representative on the phone task about any and all exclusions that might be included with your pet health care insurance plan. Specifically ask about any and all pre-existing conditions and hereditary defects that might come up later in your pet’s life. Many pet owners especially, those that have dogs, discover that hereditary defects come into their particular dogs are not covered by their pet health care insurance plan. Some companies will allow you to cover these potential problems with an additional rider. In some cases your local veterinarian will be able to warn you about any exclusions.

If you are considering a comprehensive health care insurance plan ask if the plan covers teen veterinarian visits such as; dental care, immunizations, and heartworm testing. Also ask if the pet health care insurance plan also covers the office call.

What You Don’t Know Can Kill You: Health Insurance Limitations

Health insurance often requires a mountain of paperwork that has a lot of fine print. Unfortunately, this means that few people read their plans thoroughly nor do they fully understand what their plan covers or does not cover. Here are some common limitations in health insurance coverage that you should know.

Some of the most shocking health insurance limitations are found in the the fine print holes in the insurance policy. For instance, many people have found that their health insurance did not cover a routine or necessary medical procedure because they did not receive an authorization code prior to the procedure or the hospital did not correctly fill out the paperwork. Your medical claim can be denied simply because the hospital used odd codes for your treatment. While any claims denied by the insurance company can be disputed, this process is not only tedious, but time-consuming and draining, especially for someone who is already ill. There is also little success in winning disputed claims, which makes this option rather limiting.

Another surprising health insurance limitation happens more often than people realize. Imagine this situation: you are diagnosed with a medical condition and need an operation. You research surgeons and hospitals within your plan. You understand your plan’s coverage of hospital care. You have your operation and then you find a massive medical bill in the mail. Apparently your health insurance did not cover the anesthesiologist or other specialists that may have consulted in your operation. Thus, you have to pay these specialists for their services, even though you were under the impression that your plan would cover these costs associated with the surgery. Such a bill can be in the thousands of dollars, and there is little you can do to dispute the charges. The only way to avoid these charges is to make sure that you ask before the operation who will be involved and ensure that they are covered in your health insurance plans.

Other limitations are put on a number of treatments. For instance, you may need physical therapy or visits to a psychiatrist. Many health insurance plans will put a limit on the number of covered visits for such medical treatment. Without realizing it, you may surpass the maximum visits allowed by your health insurance and end up racking up huge bills.

Many people think that buying health insurance will cover them medically, but this is only correct to a point. When securing insurance, you should read through your health insurance package carefully, and when you are about to undergo any expensive medical procedure, be sure to consult your health insurance plan first.
